✧ A REAL TREASURE IN YOUR HOME, WOULD YOU LIKE THAT?

This is a delightful Moroccan masterpiece, full of art, vibrancy and character. It is designed to share the life energy from the soul of the Berber creator to all who are around the rug. These rugs have matured over the years to the vintage pedigree you see now. Newly woven rugs have strong, eye-catchingly vibrant colours which soften into lovely washed pastel tones as the rug ages, reflecting how aging mellows energy into wisdom through experience.

This Boujad rug is a “living art” – an exotic centrepiece for your room for life to revolve around. In Morocco these are sometimes called “table mats” in recognition of the way the expressive artwork brings life to the “table” where the daily gatherings of family and friends occur.

We travelled by car, on foot and even mule to reach the Haouz region, nestled between the Middle Atlas and Atlantic Ocean to find this treasure. A Berber woman crafted this unique jewel using the methods passed down from her mother while incorporating her own story using traditional Berber designs and motifs.

This woman cannot write with a pen but writes with her hands. It took months to create this magnificent piece. The vibrant and colourful nature of these Berber Boujad rugs remind us of the mystical meditation the artisan must use to create order and beauty in what seems like chaos in the mind. This rug is the artisan’s way to describes her mindset and her zest for life - it’s her letter to the world.

This craftswoman collected her wool from the villages of the Middle Atlas, a very soft and extra-virgin wool from the sheep native to the region. Then, she washed her wool in the river with saponary plants. Then in accordance with ancestral Berber tradition, the wool is left exposed under the stars for a whole night to keep away the evil eye.

How our Moroccan rugs are made

  • WHO WOVE THIS GORGEOUS CREATION?

This rug was made by an artist from the Boujad tribe, a region of the Middle Atlas Mountains in northeastern Morocco.

WHY SHOULD YOU INVEST IN A HAND-CRAFTED MOROCCAN RUG?

Our Moroccan rug is an investment that grows in value over time. Years later, it will be worth much more than you think. It's a noble and timeless masterpiece.

This rug is a legacy of its Berber creator passed on from generation to generation and will make you a worthy heir to the ancestral Berber tradition.

WHY SHOULD YOU AVOID CHEAP MACHINE-MADE RUGS?

Apart from the unmatched aesthetic appearance, anyone buying a machine-made rug  quickly discovers that it will not last very long and therefore will have to buy another one quickly. So, start saving money now and buy a handmade Moroccan Rug that will last for decades and pass it on to your children.

Besides, machine-made carpets all look the same. You will never find a rug that looks like a handmade rug. Your handmade Berber rug will be like no other in the world.

HOW DOES A MOROCCAN RUG FEELS WHEN YOU TOUCH IT?

Your feet will love this warm and soft wool handmade rug. You will experience an immediate feeling of well-being.

WHY DO HANDMADE RUGS SOMETIMES HAVE IMPERFECTIONS?

The imperfections of handmade rugs give it character and charm and increase its value. From unusual borders, color fading, imperfect shapes, each rug is unique.

Any decorator or designer will recognize an authentic Moroccan Rug and be amazed by its splendor.

WHAT IS THE BEST STYLE TO GO WITH A MOROCCAN RUG?

This Moroccan rug will perfectly suit all your decorating styles! Modern, Scandinavian, Bohemian, Kinfolk, Ethnic chic... a piece of art that will bring a touch of elegance and authenticity to your world.

WHY SHOULD I BUY MY MOROCCAN RUG FROM YOU?

No one is more familiar with Berber rugs than the Berber tribes of Morocco. BENISOUK.COM belongs to a family of Berber craftsmen of great skill and endless passion.

When you buy a rug at BENISOUK, you are not simply buying a rug, you are also becoming part of the history of the Berber family that created it.

BENISOUK works with the most talented craftsmen in Morocco with a know-how handed down from generation to generation.

Please beware of non-authentic and poor-quality Moroccan rugs, BENISOUK ensures handmade, authentic and 100% natural Moroccan rugs.

WHY IS SUPPORTING CRAFTSMANSHIP A WISE ECOLOGICAL MOVE?

We support a sustainable, eco-friendly industry. Our rugs are 100% organic, made of natural wool and dyed with vegetable dyes. These materials have been used in carpeting for time immemorial and have proven their longevity and biodegradability. All the materials are sourced locally and help maintain the ecology of the environment around the Middle Atlas region through effective land and livestock management.

IS THE HANDMADE MOROCCAN RUG DURABLE?

Wool naturally contains a lot of lanolin oil. Each time you wash, you will bring out a little of the Lanolin oil in the fibre and coat the hairs of the rug. By doing so, the rug will become even more beautiful over the years. We recommend you only use a mild detergent when washing.

    HOW ARE THE ARTISANS PAID?

Rug making is a long process and forms an integral part of the Berber communities we operate in, and as such we are custodians to a long-standing relationship with them. As custodians, we take our responsibility to support our artisans, their culture and their communities through the rug making process seriously and beyond any legal requirements for human and labour rights.

It is only right, as a leader in the Berber Artisan Rug trade, to give fair remuneration. We always try our best to accommodate our Artisans and communities in a way that reflects the human element and commit at least 15% of the profits to be reinvested in the development of rural communities, while providing additional subsidies that allow our artisans and their families to achieve financial and personal fulfilment.

HOW ARE THE RUGS BEING PREPARED BEFORE THEY ARE SHIPPED?

Our rugs are treated and cleaned by professionals before shipping.

We guarantee the highest quality of clean, natural rugs.

  • Basic care:

Natural raw wool may contain small fibers during weaving. Over time, these threads/fibers will rise to the surface - they can be lightly sucked out. No need to panic - fiber loss is normal with new wool rugs and will fade over time.

    Stain treatment:

For long-lasting maintenance, use a vacuum cleaner. If the stain has been caused by a liquid, you must act quickly to prevent drying - use paper towels to absorb and then shampoo to clean. When in doubt, professional dry cleaning will always remain your best choice.
