Benisouk unites centuries of tribal tradition with contemporary luxury. Rooted in the high peaks of the Atlas Mountains, these designs serve as a living record of ancestral art.
We bridge this timeless heritage with modern architectural design, delivering original Moroccan masterpieces for the world's most discerning sanctuaries.
Our manual carding process creates a deeply cushioned, organic texture that feels substantial and luxurious underfoot.
Hand-tied structural knots ensure the rug withstands heavy furniture and high-traffic living for decades.
Unlike machine-made rugs, our hand-spun wool matures with your home, developing a unique luster and increased softness as it ages.
While the following stages detail the specific creation of a Taznakht rug, the essence of this craft is a shared language across the Atlas.
From the Beni Ourain tribes to the Azilal weavers, the fundamental rhythm of hand-washing, carding, and sun-curing remains universal.
Subtle variations, such as the regional breed of sheep or the tension of the loom, reflect the unique identity and landscape of each specific tribe.
The life of a Taznakht rug begins with the selection of fibers from the Siroua sheep. This high-altitude wool is prized for its saturated lanolin and exceptional sheen.
While other collections, such as the Mrirt or Beni Ourain, utilize Merino or Marmoucha wool, the Siroua fiber remains the technical standard for the intricate, high-luster weaving of the Taznakht tradition.
(Approx. 7 Days of Purification)
Our wool is purified by hand in the mountain streams. This gentle process removes impurities without stripping the natural lanolin, ensuring your rug retains its signature, luminous glow and lifelong durability.
(2 Weeks of Preparation)
Unlike the uniform, lifeless threads of a machine, our wool is spun by hand. This creates a living, irregular texture, a tactile signature that proves the rug was breathed into existence by a human hand.
(10 Days of Organic Infusion)
We harmonize archival mastery with modern lightfastness. Using traditional boiling vats, we develop an expansive palette of custom-saturated shades.
This marriage of performance-grade pigments and heritage craftsmanship ensures our rugs remain vibrant and light-reflective, preserving their depth and luminosity even in sun-drenched architectural spaces.
(3 to 6 Months of Artistry)
Two to four artisans work in a synchronized rhythm, hand-tying thousands of individual knots. For a standard 5x8 ft Taznakht rug, this can involve over 150,000 knots and up to 400 hours of labor. This is a communal ritual where ancient symbols are channeled into a contemporary mural for your floor.
Once a masterpiece is cut from the loom, our washers methodically pour water and a mild cleansing solution to pull out the natural mountain sediment every carpet attracts during its months of creation. Each rhythmic stroke flushes out the unnecessary, simultaneously 'blooming' the hand-spun wool and increasing the structural strength of the underlying knots.
(14 Days of Solar Stabilization)
The final breath of life is given under the Moroccan sun. This solar curing locks in the organic dyes and stabilizes the fibers, creating a finish of unrivaled stability and timelessness that no machine can mimic.
