Two fleeces, one pile.
1 Material

Two fleeces, one pile.

High Atlas fleece for character, with a long-staple New Zealand fleece blended in for loft. The longer fiber is why the pile stands, and why it comes back up after the Ouarzazate wash.

Several weavers work one loom together. Every row is beaten down and combed before the next begins.

3 Care

Walked on barefoot.

The pile compresses in the first months, then gains depth. Vacuum gently, no chemicals.

Living with it

The first months, and the years after
01

It sheds, then it stops.

A new hand-knotted pile releases loose fibre for two to three months. That is cut wool finding its way out, not the rug coming apart. Vacuum without a beater bar and it settles.

02

It smells of wool, briefly.

Weeks folded in transit concentrate the lanolin. Air it flat for two or three days and it goes. Every rug is washed and sun-dried in Ouarzazate before it ships, which is why it is faint to begin with. If a rug smells of chemicals, it is not one of ours.

03

Moths want dark and still.

They go for wool left undisturbed under furniture, not for a rug you walk on. Vacuum both sides twice a year, rotate it, and lift it when the room moves. We treat nothing with insecticide. Use is the defence.

04

The colour stays where it is.

Every dyed lot is rinsed in Ouarzazate until the water runs clear, before the rug leaves. Blot a spill from the edge in, and never soak it.
